OpenLeaf CBD: How Long Does D8 Stay In Your System? Part Two

If you logged on anytime the past day or so, you’ll notice part two was partially written and removed. That was MY fault as sometimes technology challenges me. THIS post was super interesting to write; I went through a lot of different articles, sites, studies and even some DM conversations about D8, the body and some “suggestions” about how to detox that were just plain scary.

In my last post I talked about one of the factors that determined how long Delta 8 THC stayed in your system. One of those factors is how much you consume. Of course if you are a chronic user, it may take up to 30 days before it is gone completely. Another factor is your metabolic rate. D8 THC has 2 metabolic phases – a rapid phase and a slow phase. Within one minute of consuming D8, a portion of it is already cleared from the body. After this occurs, the metabolic rate slows down. Here comes one the liver also uses this enzyme for the break down of other things, such as certain medications and supplements. This enzyme has to work extra hard and basically does most of the work. Because it’s such a busy enzyme, it may take a little longer to break down, depending on which medications or supplements you’ve have been taking. Your body fat percentage also plays a role in how long D8 THC will stay in your system. THC is a fat soluble which means it is stored in the body’s fatty tissue and in the liver. Because THC LOVES the FATS, its the storage that results in THC’s long detection window.

If you know you are going to have a urine test or drug screen, the best thing you can do to start to clean out your system is to stop. Here are a few ways that will help start the process:

  1. Drink plenty of water.
  2. Try a detox tea
  3. Do cardio driven exercises – exercising boosts your metabolism.

As I mentioned before, you liver is such an amazing organ; did you know that if 90% of your liver needed to be removed it would REGROW! Keep in mind it isn’t beyond destruction. There are times when disease or damage will destroy your liver and its cells to the point of no repair. Did you also know there is a such thing as “guiding the liver”? Let me back up a minute. Before I continue, let me say that what I’m writing about is a method called “The One Week + Protocol.” This method is the only one listed that fits the mold of a true detox. In case you don’t know, detox means to remove certain toxins – in this case, THC and THC metabolites. The first step in this method is “burn the fat.” THC metabolites are stored in fat cells, burning more fats means clearing more THC metabolites. The second part is where “guiding your liver” comes in. The liver usually wants to convert THC by way of this enzyme called CYP2C9; this leads in turn to production of THC-COOH, the main metabolite urine drug screens look for. The guidance of your liver can be achieved by inhibiting the CYP2C9 with a herbal supplement , St. John’s Wort. The other supplement that can be taken is called Milk Thistle. This supplement is supposed to increase another enzyme called CYP3A4, which is another player involved in THC metabolism. If you use these supplements three times a day for two weeks before your urine drug screen, it is said that you will decrease the amount of detectable THC.

There is ONE other detox method I want to talk about and it’s called “Two-Day Detox Protocol.” This is the one I think I was a little shocked by and said NO way am I going to be able to try this out! While I was in nursing school, A & P (Anatomy & Physiology) was one of my favorite subjects and we had to learn all twelve systems of the body. I remember I was so worried about learning them all, I happened to find a song one night called “Twelve Body Systems” by some band for kids. I turned it into a rap – ha (I am a child of the 80’s/90’s) and it really helped me. All of the body systems are simply amazing. There really is no other words to describe it. One of those amazing systems is the digestion system. The Two-Day Detox involves activated charcoal which interferes with something called “Enterohepatic Circulation.” Its your body’s ability to absorb and reuse substances. When activated charcoal is taken, it prevents the enterohepatic circulation of those pesky THC metabolites which should result in a clean urine drug screen. In other words, the activated charcoal you’ve just taken is going to “grab” the substances that would usually cause a positive urine drug screen. Take the charcoal about 48 hours before the urine drug screen; 5 grams is recommended, 3 times a day and 30 minutes to an hour before eating.

I should also let you know this method will also “soak” up ANY other medications. It is extremely important for anyone taking prescribed medications to separate them from charcoal. Part three, as you know, will be my own personal experiences with these detox methods. I look forward to sharing them with you.
