Kratom for some people, is something they take everyday so they are not taking a hand full of pills. Also, if they are not able to get a prescription for opioids, they turn to kratom. It can be found in capsules, pills, powders, and drinks. However there is a dark side to kratom that most people do not know about. It is very ineffective and unsafe to use. Kratom has already taken so many lives across the United States.
Kratom is a tropical tree known as mitragyna speciosa. Many people have chewed the leaves, made tea, used it for religious ceremonies, used it for medicine and have replaced it for opium. It is used to treat pain, cramps, coughing, diarrhea, anxiety, depression, and withdrawals from opioids. This is at a low dose of it. At high doses, it gives you an euphoria feeling. However, the FDA has warned people of the risks of taking kratom. You can build up toxicity in the liver which causes damage and failure, aggression, itching, numb tongue, change in mental status, weight loss, nausea, vomiting, constipation, muscle pain, seizures, dizziness, drowsiness, hallucination, delusions, breathing problems, substance abuse disorder and death. This does affect your mind as well as your nervous system. It only take roughly 5-10 minutes for it to take affect and the feeling can last for hours. In all honesty is it worth it?
Kratom has become a problem across the United States for so many people. So please do not be fooled by this. It is very addictive! People who have had withdrawals from kratom have experienced pain, tremors, seizures, muscle spasms, and so much more. Kratom was linked to 152 death in 2016 and 2017 according to the CDC and there were 1,800 calls made to the poison control center wanting to know the side effects of it. In 2021, there were six states that reported kratom as being illegal. Therefore, it has been banned. The DEA is working hard to get kratom classified as a schedule 1 substance which would make it illegal across the United States.
By all means, protect yourself and your loved ones. If you are searching for help, there are centers that will help with fighting an addiction. Its up to the individual if they really want the help.
